Police arrest two al Shabaab terror suspects in LamuPolice are holding two al Shabaab terror suspects arrested on Saturday in Lamu East.A team of police officers conducted a swoop and managed to arrest Muhamed Athuman Mujaid and his brother Anuar Omari Imam. Lamu East police boss Kioi Nyagah said officers acting on intelligence reports raided the village and managed to arrest the two who are described as dangerous. According to police reports[], the two are behind killings targeting non natives in the area of Kizingitini and Mbwajumwali. “We suspect the same gang are behind the knife attacks where victims are waylaid and stabbed to death,” said Nyagah. Nyagah said the suspects are likely to face murder charges once the investigations are complete. He said a manhunt for the rest of gang members has been intensified. The two were handed over to a team of Anti-terrorism police officers for further interrogation and profiling. On Thursday, Lamu county commissioner Fredrick Ndambuki banned residents from walking around with pangas following increased murders in the county. Ndambuki said those found with knives and pangas will be arrested and charged. Sources within police indicate that the two are al Shabab returnees who had sneaked back into the country. | |
